Sulfuric Acid AnodizingMetal Improvement Company performs metal finishing services that enhance operating characteristics of metal components. Our facility in Bensalem, PA has over 180,000 square feet of processing space to provide a wide range of metal finishing and surface treatment services. The Finishing facility is also adjacent to MIC’s Nadcap-approved Shot Peening facility for all of your post-machining needs.

The newest addition to our anodizing services portfolio is a boric-sulfuric acid anodizing (BSAA) line with tanks measuring 40 feet long by 5 feet wide by 12 feet deep. BSAA is an environmentally friendly anodizing replacement for chromic acid anodizing (CAA) approved for use on aluminum by the major aerospace OEMs.

MIC’s boric-sulfuric, phosphoric and chromic acid anodizing tanks are the largest in the Eastern United States. The processing lines have been designed to handle large parts as well as high quantities of small parts. Flexible racking systems combined with this processing equipment, enable us to pretreat, anodize and coat parts ranging in size from less than one inch to 38 feet long in the same metal finishing facility.

From any of these anodizing lines it is a short distance to a clean room that contains a dedicated adhesive primer booth and curing oven.

The automation of our processing lines ensures repeatability and compliance to customer specifications. We establish processes by referencing customers’ metal finishing specifications and apply the proper process to the corresponding part number. Specific parameters are computer-controlled and, for quality assurance, a report of the processing is produced upon completion.

The following Aluminum chemical surface treatments are available:

  • Boric-Sulfuric Acid Anodizing per BAC 5632, SS8483 and MIL-A-8625 Type 1C
  • Phosphoric Acid Anodizing per BAC 5555, SS8482, SS8752 and ASTM 3933
  • Chromic Acid Anodizing per MIL-A-8625 Type 1, BAC 5019, BAPS160-010, PPS32.01, DPS11.01 and SS8483
  • Chemical Conversion Coating (Alodine®) per MIL-DTL-5541F, BAC 5719, BAPS160-020, CSFS027, PPS32.01, MIL-C-81706, BPS 4082 and SS8486

In addition, our metal finishing facility is Nadcap approved for chromic, boric-sulfuric and phosphoric acid anodizing, conversion coating (Alodine®), passivation, priming, painting and fluorescent penetrant inspection. For additional chemical treatments, engineered coating applications and titanium etching capabilities and approvals contact us.

We complement our metal finishing with high quality painting capabilities that include:

  • Clean room with adhesive primer paint booth and oven measuring 45 feet long x 12 feet wide x 18 feet high, and
  • Four paint booths of varying sizes and one curing oven measuring 45 feet long x 12 feet wide x 14 feet high

Metal Improvement Company's metal finishing facility has all major aerospace quality approvals and boasts some of the finest testing and inspection equipment in the metal finishing industry.

Our inspection capabilities include:

As an extension of our metal finishing capabilities, we also apply Fluoropolymers from Everlube Products, DuPont and Solvay-Solexis in addition to Solid Film Lubricants, Kynar 500® and powder coatings.
